Anupama Bhagawatula

Smt. Anupama Bhagwat (born July 18, 1974, Bhilai) is a globally acclaimed Indian Hindustani classical sitar maestro based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Raised in a Telugu-speaking family, she was introduced to the sitar at the age of nine by Shri R.N. Verma. At thirteen, she entered the rigorous discipleship of Acharya Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee, the legendary doyen of the Imdadkhani Gharana. Renowned for her mastery over the Gayaki style—a lyrical exposition modeled upon the human voice—her playing combines technical virtuosity with expressive melodic fluency. Early in her career, she won the First Position in the prestigious All India Radio Music Competition in 1994, received a national HRD scholarship, and was conferred the title 'Surmani' in 1995. An 'A' grade broadcast artist, she has toured extensively across the United States, Europe, Canada, and Brazil, performing at landmark venues like the Southbank Centre (London), Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), and Saptak. She holds a Master’s degree in music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya and actively curates foundational online learning through her global 'Sitar Simplified' academies
