Ashwani Shankar

Ashwani Shankar forms a Banaras Gharana shehnai duo with his brother Sanjeev Shankar. Born in Delhi in 1982 into a family that has played shehnai and flute in the Banaras tradition for generations, he is the son of the acclaimed shehnai player Pt. Daya Shankar and a disciple of his grandfather, the legendary Pt. Anant Lal. He received a Government of India scholarship and, together with Sanjeev, the Sangeet Natak Akademi's Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2009), and the duo has performed across India, the USA, Europe and Japan.
