Deepak Desai G G

Deepak Desai (born 1989) is an eminent Indian Hindustani classical tabla virtuoso, music educator, and institutional founder based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Born into a legacy of musicians, he was initiated into the art of percussion at the age of eight by his father, the noted tabalji and vocalist Sri Gopal M.G. Desai. In 1998, he entered the formal discipleship of the internationally acclaimed tabla maestro Pandit Ravindra Yavagal. Showing exceptional early brilliance, he won the First Prize in the prestigious All India Radio National Level Music Competition in 2007, which earned him the Pandit Nikhil Ghosh Memorial Promising Artist Award at the NCPA in Mumbai. Highly qualified academically, he holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Electronics and Computer Science alongside a Gold Medalist Master of Arts (M.A.) in Tabla from the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University. He has cleared both the Sangeet Vidwat and Sangeet Visharad examinations. A prominent empanelled B-High grade broadcasting artist with Akashvani (All India Radio) and Doordarshan Bengaluru, he frequently performs across major classical frameworks and directs rhythmic pedagogy as the founder of the Tabla Gurukul academy.
