Giridhar Udupa

Ghatam Giridhar Udupa (born 17 November 1979, Bengaluru) is a globally acclaimed percussionist and the leading exponent of the ghatam in Carnatic music. He began learning mridangam at age four under his father Vidwan Ullur Nagendra Udupa and switched to the ghatam at nine, receiving advanced training under Vidushi Ghatam Sukanya Ramgopal and Vidwan Ghatam V. Suresh. Over three decades he has performed in more than 50 countries, collaborated with Hindustani masters, and is a member of the globally touring ensemble Layatharanga. In 2015 he founded the Udupa Foundation to promote music and performing arts, and in November 2024 released his debut solo album "My Name is Giridhar Udupa" to critical acclaim.
