Nishikant Barodekar

Nishikant Barodekar is an A grade Hindustani tabla artist empanelled with Akashvani (All India Radio) Bengaluru, on its rolls since 1987, having transferred to the Bengaluru station from Pune, and is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. A grandson of the legendary vocalist Hirabai Barodekar, he trained initially under Ustad Ghulam Rasool Khan in the Delhi, Ajrada and Farukkhabad styles (holding a national scholarship) and later received advanced training from Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain. Active as both soloist and accompanist, he has accompanied artists such as Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Kumar Gandharva and Ustad Vilayat Khan, been conferred the title 'Laya-Shiromani', and performed in Festival of India programmes across Europe and the USA.
