Purbayan Chatterjee

Purbayan Chatterjee (born 12 September 1976, Kolkata) is an acclaimed sitarist of the Senia Maihar Gharana who trained first under his father Pt. Parthapratim Chatterjee and later under Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and is widely regarded as one of the finest sitar voices of his generation. By the age of fifteen he had won the All India Radio music competition and the Rashtrapati (President's) Award for best instrumentalist. Known for blending Indian classical tradition with world music and jazz collaborations, he also founded a music foundation to support the next generation of classical musicians.
