Satyasheel Deshpande

Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande, born in 1951, is a prominent khayal vocalist and scholar-performer, a disciple of Pt. Kumar Gandharva (a formal disciple from 1972, having lived and studied with him for three years in Dewas) and the son of musicologist Vamanrao Deshpande. A regular at Sawai Gandharva and other classical festivals, he also teaches and writes on gharana music. His honours include the Homi Bhabha Fellowship (1996), the Kumar Gandharva Fellowship (1999), Sursingar Samsad's Tansen Award, the Raza Award for creativity (2006) and the Vatsalabai Bhimsen Joshi Award (2013).
