Sawani Shende

Sawani Shende-Sathaye, born in 1979 in Pune, is a Hindustani classical vocalist in the Kirana gharana family lineage, known for clarity of tone and command over rhythm. She was trained in the family tradition by her grandmother Smt. Kusum Shende (a disciple of Saraswati Rane) and her father Pt. Sanjeev Shende (a disciple of Shobha Gurtu), and received extensive advanced training under Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, with additional influence from Dr. Prabha Atre. She performs khayal as well as lighter forms such as thumri, dadra and bhajan.
