Chaiti is a seasonal folk-classical vocal form sung during the month of Chaitra in March and April, traditionally associated with the arrival of spring and devotion to Lord Rama. Characterised by a soulful, melancholic melody rooted in ragas such as Kafi or Bhairavi, Chaiti is especially popular across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It is performed in the Thumri style with emotive improvisation, and its texts evoke the joy and longing of the season through poetic imagery of nature, separation, and divine devotion.
