Kajri is a seasonal vocal form associated with the monsoon, traditionally composed and sung by women in the Braj and Bhojpuri-speaking regions of North India. Its lilting, melancholic melody — typically rooted in Kafi or Pilu raga — evokes the mingled longing and joy of the rainy season, describing the yearning of a young woman for her beloved amid the lush beauty of the monsoon landscape. Performed with tabla and harmonium accompaniment in light classical settings, Kajri is one of the most evocative seasonal music traditions of North India.
