Palghat Ramprasad

Palghat Ramprasad is a celebrated Carnatic vocalist and the grandson of legendary mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer, carrying forward a distinguished musical lineage. He holds a doctorate in quantitative economics from the University of Georgia and a post-doctoral fellowship from Harvard University, bringing a rare analytical depth to his musical practice. Trained primarily by his father, violinist T.R. Rajaram, he specializes in praacheena (ancient classical) music rooted in the compositions and styles of pre-1970s masters. Ramprasad is particularly renowned for his mastery of niraval, the demanding improvisational technique that simultaneously weaves melody, rhythm, and creativity. Based in Chennai, he performs extensively across India and abroad, and runs a music school named in honor of his grandfather.
