Lure of the Monsoon

Images of clouds gathering low, the patter of rain on parched earth, the scent that rises when the first drops fall: the monsoon is far more than a change in season. It is a mood, a memory, a music that has moved through centuries of ragas, waiting to be heard again.

This concert is a celebration of the intimate relationship between Hindustani classical music and the Indian monsoon, illustrating how the atmosphere of rain transforms into melody. For centuries, the arrival of the rains has inspired musicians, poets, and artists, giving rise to a rich repertoire of ragas that evoke the anticipation of gathering clouds, the freshness of the first showers, and the quiet romance of the season.
