Keerthanam is a devotional vocal composition in the Carnatic tradition, typically addressed to a specific deity and structured in three sections — pallavi, anupallavi, and charanam. While similar to the Kriti in form, Keerthanams tend to emphasise devotional sincerity and direct expression over technical complexity. Composers such as Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Purandaradasa composed iconic Keerthanams that remain central to the Carnatic concert repertoire and to devotional singing in temples and households across South India.
