About Kriti
The Kriti is the most important and technically sophisticated compositional form in Carnatic classical music, forming the backbone of every concert programme. Structured in three sections — pallavi, anupallavi, and charanam — a Kriti showcases a raga in full depth while presenting a devotional or philosophical lyric of great literary beauty. The Trinity of Carnatic music — Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Syama Sastri — composed thousands of kritis that continue to define the highest standards of compositional and musical excellence in the tradition.
