The Ravan Hatta is one of the oldest bowed string instruments of India, a folk fiddle originating from Rajasthan with mythological roots tracing back to Ravana himself. Played with a horsehair bow across two strings, it produces a raw, resonant tone deeply expressive of the folk spirit of western India. In classical contexts, Ravan Hatta is used to explore ragas in an intimate, earthy style that connects an ancient folk sensibility with the melodic refinements of the Hindusthani classical tradition.
