About Rudra Veena
The Rudra Veena is a majestic ancient plucked string instrument of the Dhrupad tradition, considered among the most sacred of all Indian instruments and named after Lord Shiva. It features two large resonating gourds attached to a long bamboo stem with frets, producing a deep, resonant tone ideally suited to the meditative gravity of Dhrupad music. Its playing demands years of rigorous training, and its sound is believed to carry extraordinary spiritual power within the North Indian classical tradition.
